los Reyes Magos
by Sarah Luna
The past few days have been spectacular! Yesterday we went to the Sunday mass. The archbishop presided and gave a wonderful homily about how we should look at the life of Jesus and emulate his love and mercy. The organ and the choir of children filled the cathedral with music. The choir sang Stille Nacht in the original German followed by Spanish and French. It was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard.
All of Compostela is celebrating Día de los Reyes Magos. Yesterday we came across a procession in the streets that led all the children to the city square where they formed a line to tell the kings what they wanted. In Spain it is the Three Kings that bring the children gifts on January 6 rather than Santa on Christmas. They were so cute!
Tonight in the Praza de Obradoiro, there was a parade of the Three Kings including floats, street performers, candy, and horses! and a drumline from Portugal.
