beans and biscuits

I’m typing this as I wait for homemade biscuits to come out of the oven.

It’s the end of the year again, which means I’m down on food and down on money. Luckily I hoarded up “emergency” staples just for this occasion. Probably the two easiest hardy foods to make from stuff on hand: beans and biscuits. My papa taught me how to make beans. First sifting them, washing them, adding onion and garlic, adding bacon for fat, generously salting, and tastefully peppering. I have a pot on now that should finish around 10pm tonight.

Biscuits are simple: milk, shortening, self-rising flour. And now they are finished. Excuse me while I make a biscuit and cheese melt.
